Preparing for Moving Day

How to get “Move Ready” on your Moving Day

Moving can be one of the most stressful events a person has to go through in their lifetime. You start to realize just exactly how much stuff you have in your house and you find yourself thinking “How will I ever actually get all of this out of here?”. Well, we are here to tell you- it’s possible! Here are some extra tips to ensure you’re prepared for the move, and help relieve some of that stress!

#1: Be honest, but practical with yourself and your moving company

It’s important, to be honest with your movers about how much you want to be moved and/or packed by them, while still remaining practical with yourself. Movers charge by the hour. Misleading them by downplaying how much needs to get done is not the way to save money on your move. Without the right information upfront, your movers will be insufficiently prepared, leading to delays and more money out of your pocket. With that said, movers prefer to handle all the heavy lifting start to finish, packing and unpacking included. However, if you are looking to save as much money as possible during this process, it would be in your best interest to pack as much as you can.  Moving companies all have their own policies and procedures when it comes to moving day. At SETT Movers, we give you the option to stay at the home or to go out so you won’t be bothered. Everyone’s opinion on this varies. Some folks like to be in control at all times during their move, while others would prefer to get out of the house and away from the craziness. If you are planning on staying in the house, setting yourself up with a folding chair and maybe a book or phone to keep you entertained is a great idea.

#2: Make way for the movers

Making sure that your movers have enough room to work in is extremely important. Aside from being frustrating, it’s very inefficient to move tons of boxes out of the way while working- keep the pathways clear! By de-cluttering doorways, hallways, and any entrances to your home, you will be doing yourself and your movers a huge service.Another thing to be cognizant of is your driveway. If your driveway is big enough for a moving truck to fit in, then be sure to move any cars out of the way. If you don’t believe there is enough room for the moving truck, be sure to clear the front of your house so the movers can have easy access to and from the house.

#3: How to pack the essentials

The last thing you will want to do at the end of your move day is search through all of your boxes to find your sheets and anything else you may need right away. The best way to ensure you will not have to do that is by packing these things into a suitcase that will be easily identified by you. Another tip to use when packing (especially when on a budget) is to use your towels, sheets, and other linens as packing fodder! This will save you from using unnecessary boxes and packing paper. Win, win!

Keeping these simple tips in mind during your move will benefit everyone involved, and will hopefully keep you sane through the process! Still have questions? You can contact SETT Movers anytime, we’re here to help!
